At Lockstep, we are experts in creating high performing executive teams so, when a family business in the textile industry needed to scale its leadership capacity, they asked for our input from the get-go.
Their specific challenge was shifting from a single leader to an executive team with shared operational responsibility.
Initially, we facilitated a customised workshop creating a strategic pathway so the new executive team was able to:
- Contribute to a future vision for the business; and
- Commit to measurable actions to achieve this future.
This step was followed by the Lockstep 8-month Gold Standard programme which worked on building leadership capacity to drive performance in a tough environment. During the programme, executives received individual coaching that served to show them their leadership strengths and growth areas. Executives also participated in three group-learning modules, held away from the office, to strengthen their ability to collaborate.
In essence, these group-learning modules started by exploring each executive’s personal and professional abilities by using our tailored Lockstep Genius Model. They then moved on to a more practical approach to leadership that covered best practice for collaboration and effective team-building. The final module cemented these learnings to derive long-term value from the programme.
The result of these intense engagements:
- Division heads got better at working together and had more impactful interactions;
- Their ability to discuss challenges also grew and;
- Individuals found their leadership voices and grew to understand how their action (or inaction) impacted on the business.
Finally, fresh business processes were put in place while accountability, in a few areas, was improved. Team members ultimately found themselves in the most effective roles for their abilities, and for the future needs of the business.
